Lost and Finding

“Lost and Finding,” is a poem I wrote that reveals the vulnerability in searching for one’s identity. I truly believe one’s identity is never “complete” or “100% found.” I think the beauty of our being is that we are creatures of constant growth. We are learning new things about ourselves everyday; it’s ok not to know who you are every second. That’s the beauty of the journey… discovery! Be at peace with who you ARE, and be excited to welcome the world of possibilities. I hope this poem resonates with you.

There are days I forget my own name.

Not the one they call me,

But the one that is nestled deep beneath my skin.

I have begun to look for myself in other people’s eyes,

And I found my meaning in busy days and late nights.

I have forgotten what I am looking for.

I stand in a room of millions and still feel invisible,

Not because no one sees me,

But because I can’t find myself.

Not quite broken,

But never whole.

I walk through days like they aren’t mine.

I wear smiles like armor,

Laughter like camouflage.

And when people ask how I am,

I answer from a script I didn’t write.

It feels lonely to be lost inside yourself.

I created this world,

Yet I know nothing about it.

I have mistaken this motion for meaning.

Filling calendars to feel alive,

Finding ways to become like someone who didn’t even know themself.

But I have learned,

That lost isn’t the same as gone,

Nor is it failure, weakness, or the end.

Begin to receive forgiveness not of others,

But of the person you failed to get to know within your own heart.

To feel found is not to be fixed,

It is to meet yourself where you are, unafraid of questions unanswered.

Sometimes, to not know is its own kind of grace.

It means you are an open book,

With chapters unfolding and pages waiting to be written,

And that matters more than certainty ever did.

Because in a way, we are all lost,

Searching to be found.

But we forget that to be found we must first find,

And finding is a part of the adventure.

This is really profound. Yes, we are all lost in some ways, looking for ways to find our true selves. I believe many people will resonate with this poem.
